Congratulations to Marissa Naylor-McCall the winner of the Marinelli City Singles and the first female to become the Marinelli City Singles Champion. She received $600.00 and a ring donated by the Winnipeg Tenpin Bowling Association.
Saturday (Day 1) was qualifying, at SDQ LaVerendrye Bowling Lanes, with the Top 16 moving on to the Finals (Day 2) on Sunday, at Chateau Bowling Lanes.
High Qualifier – Austyn Ducharme – 1458 – $50.00
High Game – Dan Tereck – 289 – $25.00
The number of entries was the same as the 2024 Marinelli, at 43.
The format was the same as last season, with the number of games in the qualifying round at 6 games. As usual, the Top 16 moved on to the finals, with two Divisions of 8 competing in 7 games of round robin match play, and then a 8th game, which was a position round of all 16 bowlers. The Top 5 after the position round went into a stepladder final. All 16 receive prize money along with the alternate.
In the Stepladder Finals:
Kristen Jolly defeated Austyn Ducharme 216 – 189
Kristen Jolly defeated Gord Tereck 226 – 204
Marissa Naylor-McCall defeated Kristen Jolly 236 – 218
Marissa Naylor-McCall defeated Israel Potter 221 – 216
The Stepladder finals used the Gold Pins (wood, and a little heavier) for a little extra excitement and the games were bowled on one set of lanes not the usual two sets of lanes. Thank you to Chateau Lanes for doing that.
The final match had Potter, last year’s champion (and this year’s #1 seed in the stepladder), defending his title against Naylor-McCall. And it came down to the 10th frame, when Potter needed to double in the 10th to win the game and title. Unfortunately, he came in a little high on the headpin on his first shot, and he immediately, and graciously, congratulated Naylor-McCall on the win.
The lowest game the first day was 121 and the highest was 289.
The lowest game the second day was 132 and the highest was a tie at 269
