WTBA Annual Recognition Tournament – Elaine Yamron

This year the tournament was recognizing Elaine Yamron, who as most everyone in the tenpin bowling community knows, is a lady who has devoted her time, experience, and guidance to our community for many years. She “wears many hats”, including the Executive Director of the Manitoba Bowling Association, the President of the Manitoba Tenpin Federation, a Director on the Winnipeg Tenpin Bowling Association, and an Advisor on the Manitoba Tenpin Bowling Coaches Association. In addition, she is the 1st Vice-President of the Canadian Tenpin Federation. Elaine has also been one of the mainstays of the Manitoba Youth programs for as long as most of us can remember. Not only this, but she bowls in leagues, is a League Secretary, and even spends time helping out at Chateau’s front desk. Whew! Thank goodness for Elaine.
This Singles Handicap tournament had 45 entries this year. A terrific turnout!
The overall winner was David Hawrysh (aka “Carwash”), who was terrific on the lanes, shooting a 753 scratch 3-game series, which included an 11-in-a-row 290 game! Just so you know, he bowled 99 pins above his average for those 3 games. Anytime you can bowl 100 pins over your average in a 3-game tournament, you have done well, and deserve to be near the top of the standings.
Although we had a bit of a late start due to some technical difficulties, everyone took it in stride and we ended up finishing pretty close to our allotted time. Thanks for your patience everyone!

Thank you to Chateau Lanes and their staff for their support and assistance with the tournament. And thanks to all the volunteers – specifically, Jay Doe, Patricia Wight, Doug Ross, and Wanda Howard. In addition to their normal tournament duties, they also helped Elaine serve the cake to all of the bowlers. That’s going above and beyond!
