Well, this is the 2nd year that the WTBA has tried combining the Allan Boes Memorial and the 5-Divisional Tournaments. The idea of combining these tournaments had to potential benefits: It would allow competitors to bowl in two tournaments at once, allowing their scores to be used for both tournaments, and only having to pay the lineage once. It also allowed us to hold these two tournaments on one weekend, and therefore not tying up two weekends for them.
The first year (2019) we had a phenomenal number of entries – 47 for the Allan Boes, and 42 for the 5-Divisional. We thought we had struck a positive chord with our bowlers and found something that would give them more interest in bowling these tournaments.
This year (2020) was a let-down. The entries were down considerably – 23 for the Allan Boes, and 24 for the 5-Divisional. So maybe we haven’t found the “secret sauce”? The WTBA would love to hear from you, the bowlers. All feedback is welcome. What do you think would help attract more bowlers to the tournaments? What is holding some of you back? Do you have any suggestions? As we said, any and all feedback is welcome!
Now after the above comments, the tournament was still a pretty good event. 23 entries is not a bad turnout. And there were some good (and some not-so-good) scores.
Congratulations to Alex Adriano (188 average), who rolled a 4-game scratch series of 876, a whopping 124 pins over his league average). In 2nd place, was Francis Magtoto (114 average), who bowled 103 pins over his average with a 559 scratch series, and in 3rd place, was Hermie Amante (157 average), who bowled a 724 scratch series, 96 pins over his average.
The top 6 entrants received prize money. And Alex, as the winner again this year, receives a paid entry to next year’s Allan Boes Memorial tournament to defend his title.
